A Maldivian man was rescued and rushed to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) on Friday evening after falling and becoming trapped deep inside the tetrapod concrete boulders of the Malé seawall.

The incident occurred near the Usfasgandu area, directly adjacent to the Malé Skate Park. According to bystanders, the man slipped through a hollow opening between the interlocking wave-break structures and tumbled deep into the core of the seawall.

The situation came to light when the trapped individual began frantically shouting for help from beneath the heavy rocks. Witnesses at the scene reported that his desperate cries were clearly audible from the surface, prompting onlookers to immediately alert authorities around 5:16 PM.

Firefighters from the MNDF Fire and Rescue Service, alongside police officers, swiftly launched a targeted rescue operation. To reach the trapped individual, emergency responders had to break and dismantle parts of the concrete tetrapods, carefully extracting him after nearly half an hour of intensive work.

Following the successful extraction, the man was immediately transferred by ambulance to IGMH for emergency medical treatment. The extent of his injuries has not yet been officially disclosed.
