A 20-year-old youth has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in serious condition following a high-speed motorcycle accident during a motorsport competition in Laamu atoll. The incident occurred during the "Racing Championship - Laamu Edition" held on the island of Gan.

According to the Maldives Police Service, the young rider lost control of his motorcycle while navigating the track at high speed. The momentum hurled both the rider and the vehicle off the road and into the adjacent sea, alarming spectators and event personnel stationed along the boundary.

Safety marshals, emergency responders, and nearby bystanders acted swiftly to pull the injured youth from the water. He was immediately transferred to the Gan Regional Hospital, where medical staff admitted him to the ICU to receive urgent medical treatment for serious injuries sustained during the impact.

The incident has brought safety and track security measures at local motorsport events under public scrutiny. Spectators and community members have highlighted the critical importance of robust physical barriers and strict emergency protocols to protect participants engaged in high-risk racing sports.

Police confirmed that an active investigation is underway to establish the exact sequence of events that led to the crash. Authorities are currently reviewing the condition of the race route, barrier placement, and mechanical factors surrounding the motorcycle to determine how the rider lost control.
