First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has emphasised that every newborn in the Maldives must have access to the same standard of high-quality medical care, regardless of their island of birth or socioeconomic circumstances. She made the remarks as the chief guest during the official inauguration of "NeoCare 2026 – The Maldives Conference on Neonatal Care Excellence," held at Meerumaa.
Addressing delegates at the symposium, the First Lady stressed the critical need to scale up investments in human capital alongside technological upgrades across the healthcare system. She observed that while state-of-the-art medical equipment and advanced neonatal technologies remain vital for modern patient management, tangible clinical outcomes ultimately hinge on the expertise, dexterity, and sound decision-making of well-trained healthcare personnel.
Illustrating the irreplaceable human element in patient care, First Lady Sajidha noted that while a machine can capture a child’s heartbeat, only a skilled professional can interpret its clinical significance and act decisively. Consequently, she urged national authorities and healthcare institutions to ensure continuous professional development, structured mentorship programs, and specialised clinical education for doctors and nurses stationed throughout the atolls.
Highlighting the collaborative spirit of the NeoCare platform—which brought together 50 delegates representing 19 medical facilities across the nation—the First Lady underscored the importance of utilising localised research and reliable public health data to steer policy interventions and clinical guidelines. She emphasised that bridging the healthcare divide between the capital and the islands requires continuous knowledge exchange across all generations of medical workers.
Concluding her address, First Lady Sajidha commended the tireless dedication and deep empathy displayed by frontline medical teams supporting fragile infants and their families through difficult moments. She reminded practitioners that healthcare is fundamentally rooted in compassion and human dignity, reiterating that every specialized treatment must be delivered within a holistic, family cantered environment.
