Popular cross-border e-commerce platform "Global Dukaan" has officially announced that it will begin accepting Maldivian Rufiyaa (MVR) for all transactions on its marketplace. The strategic move effectively eliminates the need for local shoppers and online retailers to rely on tight foreign exchange card limits when ordering goods from overseas.
According to the company, the local currency payment gateway will come into effect starting this coming Friday. From that point onward, shoppers across the Maldives will be able to complete their orders using Rufiyaa accounts and debit cards without facing transaction rejections tied to monthly US dollar bank quotas.
The change offers substantial relief for individual consumers looking to purchase everyday items and fashion directly from India's prominent e-commerce brands. More importantly, it provides a major boost to micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in the Maldives that import stock to run local boutique businesses and retail operations, shielding them from the parallel dollar market.
Customers can access the service by downloading the Global Dukaan mobile app via the Google Play Store or Apple App Store, or by signing up through the platform's official website. Upon logging into the system, users are presented with a direct gateway showcasing major Indian e-commerce marketplaces integrated into a single user interface.
Through the unified storefront, buyers can select items from various participating stores and add them to their shopping bag using the "Shop via Global Dukaan" feature. The system consolidates purchases into a single checkout flow, allowing users to settle their entire multi-brand order at once directly in Maldivian Rufiyaa.
