President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the long-standing friendship between the Maldives and China is actively paving the way for expanded opportunities, prosperity, and a bright future in national development. He made these remarks while speaking at the official reception held to commemorate the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the Mid-Autumn Festival.

During his address, President Muizzu highlighted that the enduring bilateral relationship is deeply rooted in mutual respect, sovereign equality, peaceful coexistence, and the Maldives' unwavering commitment to the One China Principle. He emphasised that the "Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership" established during his state visit to China in 2024 has successfully elevated diplomatic and collaborative ties to an unprecedented level.

Acknowledging China's invaluable contributions to the Maldives, the President commended ongoing support in areas such as modern urban development, sustainable island infrastructure, education, and technical training. He specifically pointed to landmark milestones like the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge and extensive housing projects, while also noting the expanding economic and trade opportunities facilitated by the bilateral Free Trade Agreement.

Addressing broader global challenges, President Muizzu highlighted how international conflicts and economic instability disproportionately threaten Small Island Developing States (SIDS) like the Maldives. He stressed the critical importance of global cooperation, mutual trust, and dialogue, asserting that peace is a fundamental prerequisite for development and that nations can only overcome shared obstacles through unified collaboration.

Looking ahead, the President expressed the Maldives' strong interest in further consolidating bilateral ties in alignment with its national development priorities, including engagement with China's four global initiatives. He concluded his address by extending warm congratulations to Chinese President Xi Jinping, the government, and the people of China. The celebratory event was also attended by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed and the Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives.
