President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has pledged swift and systemic interventions to resolve the challenges faced by children with disabilities in the educational sector, following an appeal by a parent whose child with Down syndrome was turned away by five private schools.

The President gave the assurance during an episode of "Rayyithunge Adu" (Voice of the People), a government initiative that provides citizens a direct platform to air personal grievances, public concerns, and systemic shortcomings directly to the Head of State.

During the exchange, the distressed parent detailed the emotional and logistical toll of attempting to secure schooling for a child with Down syndrome, highlighting that five separate private educational institutions had refused admission based solely on the child’s condition.

Responding to the complaint, President Muizzu underscored that fostering inclusivity across all facets of society—particularly in education—remains a top priority for his administration. He affirmed that every citizen deserves equitable access to national services and public opportunities without prejudice or undue barriers.

The President expressed gratitude to the parent for bringing the critical issue to his attention, emphasizing that such direct engagement provides vital insight into on-the-ground realities. He assured that the administration will thoroughly review the matter and work through the relevant ministries to rectify systemic deficiencies, remove discriminatory admission hurdles, and implement lasting solutions to ensure inclusive education for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
