The mystery behind the replica $20 US dollar bills recently discovered scattered across the streets has been unraveled, revealing an unconventional promotional campaign for an upcoming Maldivian feature film titled "Keehve?".
At a time when foreign currency shortages remain a prevalent issue in the country, the sudden appearance of the dollar notes sparked widespread curiosity and speculation among the public. Many initially suspected the stunt was linked to political manoeuvring, a call for street demonstrations, or civic protests, before closer inspection confirmed it was tied to the entertainment venture.
The project brings together four prominent local banners: Slam Studio, Saturn Studio, Noor N Movies, and Kid Production. Directed by seasoned filmmaker Issa Shareef and produced by Aslam Rasheed, the film also features Hussain Nooradeen, Ali Shaniz, and Kid Production's Hussain Munavvaru (Kidu) serving as executive producers.
Addressing the campaign, Hussain Munavvaru stated that the initiative was designed as a creative method to unveil the project's official title to the public, confirming that the film is named "Keehve?".
While principal photography for the collaborative feature wrapped earlier this year, the production team has largely kept specific plot details under wraps. "Keehve?" is scheduled to officially premiere at the Olympus cinema on November 25.
