Applications have opened for the fourth batch of the "Marine Hatchery Skills Development Program," aimed at equipping individuals with essential technical expertise in breeding coral reef fish and developing aquaculture facilities. Jointly organized by the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources and the Maldives Marine Research Institute (MMRI), the training course will be held from October 31 to November 12 at the K. Maniyafushi Research and Training Facility.

The training program is being carried out under President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s "Hafthaa 14" roadmap, designed to introduce youth to aquaculture techniques and the establishment of marine hatcheries. Under the President's guidance, the frequency of basic mariculture training programs was expanded from two to four batches annually to broaden access to industry-specific training.

Conducted in collaboration with the World Bank-assisted TRANSFORM Project managed by the ministry, the program seeks to foster a sustainable marine aquaculture industry across the country. The initiative aims to build local human resources and develop skilled Maldivian professionals capable of driving commercial mariculture ventures.

Selected participants will be stationed at the K. Maniyafushi Research and Training Facility throughout the duration of the course. The institute confirmed that return boat transportation between Malé and Maniyafushi, as well as full accommodation and meals, will be provided for all trainees.

Interested applicants are required to submit completed application forms alongside a copy of their national identity card to MMRI or via email to info@mmri.gov.mv by 14:00 on Thursday, October 18. A total of 15 slots are available for the program, with placements to be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis if applications exceed the allocated quota.
