The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) disbursed MVR 59.2 million in financial assistance to 15,571 individuals with disabilities during September, marking a steady increase in social welfare coverage across the country.

According to monthly statistical data released by the agency, both overall disbursements and beneficiary numbers rose compared to August, when MVR 58.4 million was distributed among 15,498 recipients.

The national disability registry also recorded significant growth during the month, with 263 individuals newly registered under the assistance framework. This represents an uptick from the 169 new registrants recorded in August, bringing the total number of individuals enrolled in the national disability registry to 15,885.

Alongside disability support, NSPA released MVR 1.08 million in financial assistance to beneficiaries under the dedicated thalassemia allowance program in September. This reflects a marginal increase from the MVR 1.07 million disbursed for the scheme in August.

The agency confirmed that six new patients registered for the thalassemia allowance during September, compared to four new enrollments in the previous month. With the latest additions, the total number of individuals actively receiving the monthly thalassemia allowance now stands at 541.
