The Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Ooredoo Maldives have officially inaugurated the "Ooredoo Masjidhuna" initiative, establishing a dedicated public-private partnership to renovate and upgrade mosques across the country. Formally unveiled during a joint press briefing, the program aims to revitalise religious infrastructure ahead of Ramadan each year, ensuring prayer spaces are well-prepared to welcome communities.
Under the framework of Ooredoo’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, the initiative targets the refurbishment of five mosques annually across different islands in the Maldives. Maintenance and enhancement works under each yearly cycle will be scheduled for completion prior to the commencement of the fasting month of Ramadan.
The Islamic Ministry stated that the collaborative undertaking seeks to reinforce religious facilities and address infrastructural needs within island communities. The scope of work focuses on improving the condition of prayer halls, addressing structural upkeep, and delivering practical enhancements to serve local congregations effectively.
Officials also highlighted that "Ooredoo Masjidhuna" represents an important step in strengthening long-term engagement between the government and corporate entities to foster Islamic infrastructural development. By establishing sustainable private sector contributions, the initiative seeks to alleviate recurring maintenance pressures on state bodies and local island councils.
Through this sustained partnership, the Ministry and Ooredoo Maldives aim to foster consistent, year-round maintenance models for community mosques, ensuring comfortable, clean, and accessible environments for worshippers across the nation.
