The Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure has announced major commercial and recreational redevelopment plans across Malé following the reclamation of 14 key land plots from the jurisdiction of Malé City Council. Executed under the provisions of the Decentralization Act, the transfer brings prominent public spaces directly under state ownership to spearhead urban infrastructure projects intended to cater to the growing populations of Malé and Villimalé.

Among the most significant undertakings unveiled is the transformation of the Sultan Park and National Museum area into a modern e-sports arena alongside a dedicated museum park. Meanwhile, the current Fish Market site is slated for redevelopment into a commercial and corporate hub featuring a multi-story building dedicated to rentable office spaces and commercial outlets.

Comprehensive revamps are also scheduled across the capital’s traditional commercial waterfront. The Local Market is set to be redeveloped into a modern market complex, while the Travelers' Market site has been designated for a mixed-use commercial development. The reclaimed portfolio further encompasses several high-traffic recreational and utility areas across the city, including the Rasfannu artificial beach and the Carnival cafe parking zone.

According to the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure, the decision to absorb these plots under state oversight stems from a strategic goal to sustainably develop and manage vacant lands and public areas. The ministry noted that centralizing these assets allows the government to maximize public utility and deliver structured economic infrastructure for the capital's residents.

The planned redevelopments mark a substantial shift in the management of Malé's municipal assets, moving several iconic public landmarks into intensive commercial and modernized community spaces designed to support local business growth and public recreation.
