The Accelerating Renewable Energy Integration and Sustainable Energy (ARISE) project has rolled out comprehensive public consultation sessions across 13 islands under its 15-megawatt solar package. The national initiative focuses on boosting solar capacity alongside upgrading island power grids and deploying Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to reinforce clean energy infrastructure.

As part of this consultation series, dedicated stakeholder sessions were recently concluded in Funadhoo in Shaviyani Atoll, as well as Maabaidhoo and Kunahandhoo in Laamu Atoll. These meetings brought together island council representatives, utility service providers, and local residents to deliberate on the implementation phases and strategic benefits of the development.

The primary objective of these forums is to inform community stakeholders about the project’s scope while detailing the long-term advantages of expanding solar power generation. In addition to technical briefings, the project team briefed participants on the established Grievance Redress Mechanism, ensuring accessible and transparent channels for residents to submit concerns or inquiries throughout the project's lifecycle.

During the interactive discussions, utility officials and project personnel addressed public queries regarding local grid integration and technical reliability. Representatives emphasized that integrating modern battery storage solutions with upgraded distribution grids will ensure stable, continuous electricity supply while substantially lowering dependence on imported fossil fuels.

The consultations highlighted the importance of active community involvement and local council cooperation in driving the nation's environmental agenda forward. Through targeted collaboration, the ARISE project aims to accelerate the Maldives’ broader transition toward an eco-friendly, resilient, and sustainable clean energy landscape.
