Hollywood action icon Sylvester Stallone has candidly opened up about his legendary two-decade feud with fellow box-office powerhouse Arnold Schwarzenegger, revealing the raw animosity that once defined their relationship. Speaking during an appearance at PaleyFest in New York, the 80-year-old actor reflected on the intense hostility of their prime years, noting that their fierce rivalry ultimately drove both stars to new professional heights.

The bitter friction between the action titans began during the 1977 Golden Globes and rapidly escalated into a full-scale battle for supremacy throughout the 1980s. Both actors went to extraordinary lengths to outshine each other on screen, constantly competing over physique definition, body counts, box-office grosses, and even the size of weaponry used in their films. The hostility was so venomous at its peak that they avoided sharing public spaces, with each actively attempting to derail the other’s movie prospects.

Their notorious power struggle took a comical yet devious turn when Schwarzenegger deliberately feigned strong interest in the critically panned 1992 script for Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot. Desperate to snatch the project away from his adversary, Stallone immediately signed on to the film, only to realize he had fallen right into a clever career trap set by the Austrian star.

Reflecting on how their toxic confrontation eventually transformed, Stallone acknowledged that having a formidable rival was instrumental to his survival in Hollywood. "We're good friends now. We've gotten mellow. But you have these two adversarial guys, and sometimes you really find that in real life, that just continues to up your game," Stallone explained.

The two cinematic giants finally buried the hatchet during the early 1990s through their joint business ventures with the Planet Hollywood restaurant chain. After years of sharing screen space in blockbusters like The Expendables franchise, their former animosity has evolved into one of the most respected friendships in modern Hollywood history.
