The Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a White Alert across large parts of the country, warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds that are expected to persist over the coming days.
The national weather office confirmed that the White Alert remains in effect today from 10:20 to 16:20, cautioning that torrential showers accompanied by thunder are likely across the designated areas.
Unsettled weather conditions are forecast to impact much of the country over the next 24 hours, bringing scattered rain and isolated heavy downpours to several islands. The Met Office noted that the wet weather system currently affecting the nation will likely extend throughout the upcoming weekend.
Winds across the country are expected to prevail from the southwest and west at speeds ranging between 8 and 18 miles per hour. During squalls and passing showers, wind speeds may accelerate significantly, with gusts reaching up to 35 miles per hour.
Seas are anticipated to remain moderate but will become rough during squalls, with wave heights between 3 and 6 feet. Authorities advise seafarers and the general public to exercise caution when traveling by sea and to monitor official forecasts closely.
