First Lady of the Maldives, Sajidha Mohamed, has commended Pakistan’s First Lady and Member of the National Assembly, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, for her notable advocacy and dedicated efforts in public health, particularly in advancing women’s healthcare and overall well-being. The commendation was extended during a high-level meeting held at the official presidential palace, Aiwan-e-Sadr, on Thursday evening.

The bilateral discussions took place during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s state visit to Pakistan. Upon arriving at the presidential palace, President Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha were warmly received by Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and First Lady Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, after which the two First Ladies convened a separate, dedicated session centered on vital social development issues.

During the engagement, the discussion focused on critical areas including educational advancement, healthcare delivery, and broader community wellness. Both dignitaries placed special emphasis on combating non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and encouraging healthier lifestyles, identifying key avenues where the Maldives and Pakistan can forge collaborative health initiatives to better support their populations.

The meeting further highlighted the pivotal roles both figures play in championing and safeguarding the rights of women and young girls. First Lady Sajidha and Aseefa Bhutto stressed the importance of breaking down barriers that limit women’s access to education and economic participation, strengthening social safety nets, and expanding opportunities for women to take active leadership roles across public and private sectors.

Welcoming First Lady Sajidha, Aseefa Bhutto expressed satisfaction at the productive dialogue, while Madam Sajidha expressed deep appreciation for the warm hospitality extended to the Maldivian delegation. The meeting concluded on a firm commitment by both First Ladies to work closely together in achieving mutual social objectives and supporting vulnerable communities in both nations.
