Pop superstar and actress Selena Gomez has candidly revealed that heavy nicotine vaping caused noticeable changes to her voice, confirming she has quit the habit after realising the irreversible toll it was taking on her vocal cords.

Addressing persistent online criticism and speculation regarding her altered speaking tone, the 34-year-old artist took to social media to confront the issue head-on. Gomez admitted that she had developed a significant nicotine dependence through electronic cigarettes, an addiction that progressively dried out and irritated her larynx, leaving her voice sounding noticeably raspier.

"I’m not going to be able to change my voice. I vaped nicotine a lot," Gomez said in a candid video message to fans. "Nicotine is so hard to quit. It’s so stupid, and it’s changed my voice. So if you guys don’t like listening to my voice, that’s totally understandable. I don’t mind. Just don’t listen to it."

Medical experts emphasise that the aerosol generated by e-cigarettes delivers concentrated propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, and chemical flavourings across the delicate vocal folds. These compounds strip natural lubrication from vocal tissue, sparking chronic laryngeal inflammation and mucosal thickening. For performers reliant on vocal range and breath control, prolonged vaping can permanently alter pitch and vocal flexibility.

Gomez, who has also navigated chronic health battles including lupus and a kidney transplant, urged followers not to take up electronic cigarettes or fall into the nicotine trap. She confirmed she has managed to quit vaping entirely and remains committed to protecting her long-term respiratory and vocal health.
